If you are reading this then you're probably expecting to see cool, fresh, and awesome tech articles. Well hopefully I can deliver the goods.
I am starting off with a comprehensive look at movie database collection software since that is something that currently on my to-do list. I have a few requirements in no particular order:
Requirements
- Easy to use.
- Automatic IMDB (or equivalent) information import (Cast, Synopsis)
- Availability from anywhere in the world (i.e. the Internet).
- Availability from my cell phone (Android for me).
- Availability for my wife and kids (they're always asking me what this or that movie is about...).
- Affordable cost (I'll examine both cost and no-cost solutions, but I prefer inexpensive).
I realize that the Internet is vast and so are the solutions for such an endeavoras this, so if you have a system/program that meets the above requirments, feel free to post comments and links.
My Current Solution
I started off using an MS Access database and that worked well, but not everyone has MS Office in my house so I decided to switch to a web-based interface. A good friend was working on a music collection website and gave me a copy of the source which was the basis for a classic ASP website. It worked okay, but it didn't have all of the IMDB goodies that I wanted to incorporate into the site.
After a few years, the server which hosted the website went kaput and that ended the site (yes I do have a backup but classic ASP blows!). I went back to the original MS Access database and that is what I've been using for about the last 2-3 years. Now it's time for a change!
Next time I'll start off with the no-cost solutions.
Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you back again soon!
